AWS launches Kiro bots in Kiro Crew: named agents with their own memory that run long tasks and parallel sessions

AWS says bots are generally available in Kiro Crew, each with its own workspace, scoped tool permissions and schedules; it does not publish adoption figures or independent tests.

Why it matters

AWS's Kiro, to which Amazon Q Developer users have been directed to migrate, is adding bots: named, long-running agents with their own memory, workspace and narrowly scoped permissions that start and monitor parallel sessions and report back in one chat. The launch post says the design targets developers losing track of what parallel agent sessions did. Bots can ask for approval before changes and run on schedules, such as investigating overnight build failures. The Register notes similar launches from OpenAI, Anthropic and Meta, and that Kiro ranked 27th among IDEs in Stack Overflow's 2026 survey. Watch adoption and whether permission scoping holds up in practice.
