Cambricon co-founder Chen Yunji says AI-designed chips and smarter AI could form a self-improving loop

At the World Laureates Forum in Shanghai on 30 October he said his team's AI-designed chip Qimeng-1 (2021) performed roughly like an Intel 486 and Qimeng-2 (2025) like a mainstream phone CPU of over a decade ago, Chinese outlets report; he gave no timeline for such a loop.
