Frontier GPT models offer candidate resolutions for about 60% of 200 randomly sampled open conjectures, study finds

The OpenConjecture dataset draws conjectures from arXiv maths papers since February 2026; counterexamples were about 1.3 times more common than proofs, the authors did not expert-verify the answers, and some exploited errors or underspecification in the conjectures.
