Why it matters

Thinking Machines Lab, founded by former OpenAI chief technology officer Mira Murati, was valued at more than $10 billion when it raised a $2 billion seed round last year. Business Insider's sources say the new $5 billion raise at a $40 billion pre-money valuation would more than triple that, even as the AI talent war intensifies. The report landed the same day the lab released Inkling 2 Small. Watch for a confirmation or closing announcement this week, and for the final valuation, the investor list and how much compute the money buys.
