Anthropic pitches Claude's chip-design skills to IPO investors; Synopsys and Cadence shares fall
The Information reports that Anthropic told prospective investors a new 15-person hardware unit uses Claude to speed up custom chip work; EDA stocks dropped on Tuesday.
Why it matters
The report, attributed to The Information and not confirmed by Anthropic, comes as the company prepares an IPO that investors have pushed toward a valuation of about $1.5 trillion. Anthropic has not said it will sell chip-design tools, but has reportedly asked EDA firms for proprietary design data. OpenAI said in September it used its own models to design its Jalapeño chip with Broadcom in nine months. Building in-house silicon could complicate ties with Amazon, Alphabet and Nvidia, which supply its compute.
