South Korea plans to ease AI data centre criteria under its special act, cutting the AI power threshold to 5 MW

Electronic Times reports the science ministry will lower the threshold from 10 MW of AI-equipment power to about 5 MW and the ratio test from 300 kW and 60% of IT power to 250 kW and 50%, with draft decrees to be pre-announced after industry consultation early next week; the cap for power-grid assessment exemptions is still being negotiated, with the science ministry at 100 MW and the climate ministry at 50 MW.
