Liquid Energy launches NanoDC, a factory-built solar-powered inference unit that needs no grid connection

The Y Combinator Fall 2026 startup in Waterloo, Ontario says each unit ships whole, unfolds its own solar array and serves inference, with first tokens within eight weeks of a signed contract; the claims are the company's and unverified.

Why it matters

Power and permitting, not chips alone, are what delay new data centres. Liquid Energy's answer is to sell inference from modular units that bring their own compute, solar power, cooling and networking. Its Y Combinator listing says it has 20 units and says it can make 2 megawatts a month, aiming for 20 megawatts a month within a year. Those figures are the company's, and a unit's real output at night or in poor weather is not stated. Watch for first customers and measured throughput.
