Altman says people must not cede control of the future to superintelligence

In a post on X, the OpenAI chief executive wrote that this requirement should ultimately constrain AI progress, and that OpenAI rejects people being relegated to doing what AI systems decide to reward.
Why it matters
The post follows a public discussion in September, when Anthropic chief executive Dario Amodei called for the industry to slow the pace of AI development. Altman endorsed that proposal at the time, saying he agreed that the frontier needs to be paced, and supported giving independent evaluators access to AI systems. He also told the UN Security Council in September that systems should not be trained unless developers can make a strong case that they will remain under human control.
