Unveiled in Shenzhen, the simulator generates synthetic camera and LiDAR feeds so Apollo Go can test rare and risky situations without safety drivers on public roads.

Why it matters

Robotaxi operators need huge mileage to see rare events, and world models are becoming the cheaper way to get it. Baidu says Apollo World can cover up to 100,000 km of virtual driving a day, which Finimize reports compresses roughly three years of safety-driver testing. Apollo Go already runs driverless services in several Chinese cities and abroad. The open question is how well simulated miles satisfy regulators, so watch for whether Chinese or foreign authorities accept them as safety evidence.

Key facts

  • Virtual driving: up to 100,000 km a day
  • Inputs: synthetic camera and LiDAR feeds
  • Unveiled: Shenzhen
  • User: Apollo Go robotaxi fleet
