Digital Science buys Jenni AI, an academic writing tool with more than eight million users
Jenni AI will keep its name, team and plans and will connect its source and citation tools to Digital Science's Dimensions database of 171 million publications; the price was not disclosed.
Why it matters
AI writing tools are widely used by students and researchers, and a known weakness is generated references that point to publications that do not exist. Linking Jenni AI's citation suggestions to the Dimensions publication record is meant to let users trace each source to a real paper. The deal gives Digital Science, which sells research data and software to universities, publishers and funders, a direct route to students and early-career researchers in 189 countries. Watch whether citation checking against Dimensions reaches users and how it performs.
