Taiex falls a record 3,737.67 points at the open as TSMC hits its daily limit down

Focus Taiwan (CNA) says the index hit an intraday low of 37,837.05 and TSMC fell NT$220 to NT$2,020, wiping NT$5.7 trillion off its market value, after Wall Street, Tokyo and Seoul sold off over AI data-centre policy uncertainty.
Why it matters
TSMC makes up more than 40 percent of the Taiwan market's total value, so its limit-down move drove the record point drop. The sell-off follows the Nasdaq's 5.52 percent fall and the KOSPI circuit breaker, and traces back to fears that US data-centre restrictions after the midterms will slow orders for AI chips. Focus Taiwan says MediaTek, Delta Electronics and ASE also hit limit down and Hon Hai fell more than 9 percent. Watch whether Taiwan's regulators step in and whether chipmakers' order books confirm the fear.
