Athenahealth lets patients connect their health records to Anthropic's Claude
The AthenaPatient MCP server is open to Claude Pro and Max users who sign in and choose what to share; Athenahealth says Anthropic may not train on the data.
Why it matters
Athenahealth says it serves over 20% of the US population, so the connector puts a large pool of patient records within reach of a consumer chatbot, at the patient's choice. Claude can draw on lab results, vitals, medications, conditions, immunizations, visit history and care plans, but Athenahealth says the tool does not give medical advice. It follows Microsoft's work with Mayo Clinic and OpenAI's deal with Boston Children's Hospital. Watch for uptake, other assistants getting access, and privacy scrutiny.
