Goldman Sachs bars traders and bankers from AI coding tools such as Claude Code, keeping them for engineers

Bloomberg reports internal guidance published last month limits the tools to the firm's engineers after months of wider use; Goldman says it moves tools to those best suited after experimentation weighing productivity and risk.
Why it matters
Goldman's chief information officer praised vibe coding by non-technical staff as recently as July, so the reversal shows large banks drawing tighter lines around AI tools as cost and security concerns grow. JPMorgan Chase said last month it would not allow outside AI agents inside the bank, and Bank of America and Citigroup have set their own limits on agents. Watch whether other banks follow and whether Goldman widens access again once controls are in place.
