Google says it will build its first Wyoming data center with a $17 billion investment and a 702 MW fuel-cell plant with carbon capture

Google's announcement names Tallgrass Energy, Black Hills Energy, AEP and Related Digital as partners, says it will pay for 100% of the power it uses and promises air cooling; no opening date was given.
Why it matters
The announcement comes days after midterm results in which voters pushed back on data centres, and Google leads with commitments on power costs, water and local jobs. The power plan is unusual: a contracted 702 MW natural-gas fuel-cell development with carbon capture and storage that Google calls the largest planned of its kind, plus gas generators run by Tallgrass and Black Hills. Google says its contracted carbon-capture capacity now reaches nearly 1 gigawatt. Watch the construction timeline, which WyoFile says was unclear, and how much of the claimed emissions capture is delivered.
