Google to invest $15bn in Malaysia in 2027 and 2028, mostly on new data-centre campuses
Google says the money covers new campuses in Selangor and Negeri Sembilan, more than 1GW of added clean energy, water security and worker training; it will pay for all the power its campuses use.
Why it matters
Malaysia has become one of the main overflow markets for AI data centres in Asia, and this commitment adds two more Google campuses to the one already running at Elmina Business Park in Selangor. Google puts the construction-phase boost at an average of $1.1bn a year to GDP and more than 37,000 jobs a year. The pledge to pay for all the power its campuses use and add over 1GW of clean energy speaks to growing local worries about grid strain and water.
