Democrat Gina Hinojosa wins the Texas governor's race after pledging a moratorium on new data centres
Texas accounts for more than 25% of planned US data-centre capacity by 2030; overnight CoreWeave fell 7% and SpaceX 6% on Robinhood and Nasdaq-100 futures were down 0.8%.
Why it matters
Texas has been the centre of the US data-centre build-out, and its incoming governor campaigned on halting new construction, tightening water and power rules and ending tax breaks. Wells Fargo estimates that 27% of planned US data-centre gigawatts are in the state. Greg Abbott, who had called Texas the epicenter of AI development, announced a pause of his own late in the race. Voters also decided at least 50 local data-centre ballot measures in 13 states. Watch what form a moratorium takes once Hinojosa is in office and how builders respond.
