Samsung SDS starts building a Gumi AI data centre of 60MW, expandable to 120MW

The centre on the site of Samsung Electronics' former Gumi Plant 1 is due to open in March 2029 with liquid cooling for GPU servers; the approved 427.3 billion won excludes the GPU servers themselves.
Why it matters
The project is the first concrete step in Samsung Group's 60 trillion won plan for the Yeongnam region announced in July, which also includes humanoid-robot mass production and a robot data factory in Gumi. Samsung SDS will both run its own GPU servers as a service and rent space to customers who bring their own, and the site will support AI training for factory robots at Samsung affiliates. The company told investors on 29 October it aims for more than 800MW of AI infrastructure by 2031. Watch the GPU orders that follow.
