Taiwan readies NT$500bn stabilisation fund and short-selling curbs after Taiex plunge

Focus Taiwan (Nov 6): National Financial Stabilization Fund authorised for a 10th intervention after Taiex fell 1,873 points (−4.51%); FSC short-sale caps and higher margins from Nov 9.
Why it matters
Taiwan’s chip-heavy Taiex closed down 4.51% and about 20.5% from its October peak as foreign selling and U.S. midterm fears over AI data centres hit Asia. The stabilisation fund’s committee authorised interventions for the first time since the 2025–26 tariff episode, its tenth use since 2000. Separately the FSC said intraday borrowed short-sale volume caps fall from 30% to 3% of average daily volume and short margin rises from 90% to 130% from November 9. The moves sit beside Korea and China liquidity steps the same week. Watch whether the fund actually buys next week and how TSMC opens.
