Anthropic details how Claude uses offline “dreaming” to organise agent memory

Engineering post by Lance Martin (Nov 6): dreaming replays transcripts to correct notes, build wikis and promote memories; evaluations include Pokémon and a large internal corpus.
Why it matters
Anthropic’s post treats agent memory as knowledge retained between sessions, separate from weights or single-chat context. Dreaming is the offline pass that checks notes against transcripts, merges duplicates and can inject a small top layer into later sessions. On Pokémon, correcting a wrong location note changed whether Claude re-entered a cave; on a large Stainless document corpus, more dreaming rounds raised question scores. The work matters because long-running agents fail when memory drifts. Watch Managed Agents dreaming controls and whether outside labs replicate the evals.
