OpenAI agrees to acquire Pierre Computer to bring its Code Storage into Codex

OpenAI told Axios the developer-tools startup's technology already runs inside Codex; terms were not disclosed and Pierre's open-source projects stay open source.
Why it matters
The deal moves OpenAI from writing code toward owning the infrastructure where code is stored, reviewed and shipped, putting it in more direct competition with Microsoft's GitHub, even though Microsoft owns nearly a quarter of OpenAI. It follows OpenAI's disclosure this week of Pando, its own Git backend built after Codex agents overwhelmed existing systems. Cursor launched the GitHub rival Origin in August and former GitHub CEO Thomas Dohmke announced a competing product last month. Watch for a price, closing terms and whether Code Storage is offered to Codex customers.
