Waymo says it will end its Uber robotaxi partnership in Austin and Atlanta in January 2028

Co-CEO Tekedra Mawakana told Bloomberg riders will book through Waymo's own app; Uber says it was Waymo's idea not to offer direct robotaxi booking in Uber's app.
Why it matters
The split confirms earlier Financial Times reporting that Waymo wanted out of the deal, which was set to expire in May 2028. Mawakana said Waymo first partnered with Uber because it offered scale, but riders found the experience a little bit of a crapshoot because they never knew whether a robotaxi or a human-driven car would arrive. Waymo already sells rides through its own app in its other cities. Watch whether Uber brings another autonomous partner to Austin and Atlanta.
