Why it matters

Animation becomes a one-step feature in ChatGPT: users can make a GIF from a prompt or an uploaded photo, then change playback speed and edit individual frames, which ChatGPT could not do natively before. OpenAI says Images 2.6 also speeds up image generation and is rolling out to all ChatGPT and Codex users on web, desktop and mobile. By the company's count, weekly image output has grown by a third since September. Watch how developers take up the two new API models.
